One of Nigeria’s most popular novelist and indeed Africa’s most versatile story teller, Professor Chinua Achebe is being honored by technology giant, Google. In commemoration of his 87th birthday, Google has Achebe’s image as its doodle.
Doodle is an innovation of Google with which it celebrates People, achievements, awards and special days among others.
Chinua Achebe used his literary prowess to tell the Nigerian story to the world with his rich choice of words and of course African proverbs which he had come to be identified with. He was described as the father of modern African literature.
He won the Man Booker International prize and The Common wealth Poetry Prize among other local and International awards. Achebe’s books include, No longer at ease, Arrow of God, A man of the people and Things fall Apart, which is said to be his best known novel, one of the most read books in the world, translated into more than 50 languages and sold over 10 million copies.
Chinualumogu Achebe was born on the 16th of November, 1930 and died in March 2013.
